Teaching Terms and Conditions
Note – all examples and inclusions are not limiting.
1. Lessons are charged a Semester in advance (i.e. two Terms). For clarity, a year is made of two Semesters.
a) For school students (those attending lessons at School) the length will depend on the School’s academic calendar and my professional engagements,
this will be advised as appropriate each Semester.
b) For private students (those attending lessons at my private studio) please confirm the length of Semesters directly with me.
2. Payment of the invoice is the acceptance of these terms and conditions.
3. Payment is due on or before the third Friday of the given Semester.
4. Late payments may incur a 10% fee of the total bill.
5(i). Overdue accounts may result in the suspension of lessons without credit or make up lessons until the invoice has been settled.
5(ii). For partial payment including non payment of the GST component, two courtesy emails will be sent as reminders, after which the account will be redrawn to reflect the
number of fully paid lessons. Any residual monies will be regarded as an administrative fee.
6(i). For school students: Fair notice of absenteeism to the scheduled lesson due to illness is required:
a) By text or call to 0407 484 727 before 8am (AES/DT) of the same morning, or 7.00am (AES/DT) for lessons before 9am (AES/DT).
b) By email before 7.00am (AES/DT) of the same morning, or 6.30am (AES/DT) for lessons before 9am (AES/DT) (this is the only form of communication
accepted from school students).
c) An email, or call to the school does not notify me and will not be accepted.
d) Text messages or calls will only be accepted from parents or guardians. In the event of a school student texting or calling, the message will ignored.
f) Should the teacher be sick, lessons will be credited or made up, the teacher will notify affected students.
6(ii). For private students: Fair notice of absenteeism to the scheduled lesson due to illness is required before 1pm (AES/DT) of the day of the lesson.
Notice must be by text or call to 0407 484 727. An email will not be accepted.
a) Text messages or calls will only be accepted from parents or guardians in the event the private student is a minor.
b) Should the teacher be sick, lessons will be credited or made up, the teacher will notify affected students.
7. Any activity resulting in an inability to attend the lesson (school and non-school); including but not limited to tests, exams, excursions, incursions, extended holidays;
sleep ins, after school activities; requires fair notice. Fair notice is notification no later than one week before the scheduled lesson (7 days). Notification is via
discussion at the previous lesson(s) or via text/emails earlier.
8. It is assumed that I do not know of any school activity that would impact the scheduled lesson.
9. Lessons forgotten or missed without fair notice as above will be forfeited without credit or make up.
a) The total number of lessons received will include the number forfeited as above.
10. In the event a student is unable to provide fair notice, as above:
a) For school students: come see me in person as soon as possible (preferably before school starts) and endeavours will be made to reschedule this lesson,
however note clause 9 will take precedence if this is not possible.
b) For private students: contact me as soon as possible and endeavours will be made to reschedule this lesson, however note clause 9 will take precedence if
this is not possible.
11. For school students: Lesson times are scheduled as per policy appropriate to the School.
a) Standard lesson times are between the hours of 8.30am (AES/DT) and 3.30pm (AES/DT).
12. Students must have a guitar at their lesson. Failure to bring guitar and books will result in either a forfeited or shortened lesson.
If borrowing a school guitar for a lesson, it is the student’s responsibility to make all arrangements for this.
13. Due credits or extra lessons will be rolled into the next account.
For final accounts (i.e. last semester for Year 12 students), virtual lessons will be offered as make-ups as required.
14. Some schools require me to collect students from their classroom for the guitar lesson and return them at the end of the lesson.
The walking time for this is included in the 30 minute guitar lesson. In addition, if the class has left the classroom the walking time to find the class is also included in
the 30 minute timeslot. Students are to be aware of their lesson time from the timetable system unique to each school. (e.g. either the online timetabling system or hard
copy list on my door/room as appropriate).
15. Students are to wait at the scheduled lesson room at the scheduled time if I am temporarily elsewhere (e.g. in the bathroom).
Students should ensure that I have acknowledged them upon arrival. In the event where I am required to collect the student, then the student is required to wait in their
classroom for collection – or mutually agreed place, (e.g. if I am informed the class is in the library I will collect from the library).
16. In the event where the student has been suspended or expelled from the school where lessons are regularly held; no credits, refunds or make-up lessons will be given
for lessons scheduled during the suspension or expelled period. In addition, no online lessons will be offered during the period of suspension or expulsion.
17. Abusive and antisocial behaviour from students will not be tolerated. In rare outbreaks the lesson will be shortened. In ongoing circumstances, I reserve the right to
cancel lessons after consulting the parent/caregivers.
18. In the event either the student or teacher is required to isolate or quarantine as a result of COVID, lessons will continue online. However, if unwell please refer to
clause 6).
19. For remote learning, lessons will take place on an appropriate virtual system (e.g. Zoom).
a) For school students and private students aged 18 and below: online lessons must be transmitted from a common area of the house supervised by a parent
or guardian (a child's bedroom is not appropriate).
b) For school students, lessons must not be delivered through a student’s personal mobile and should only be accessed through their school laptop/device or
family computer.
c) Students, parents and caregivers must ensure the home wifi is able to deliver a reliable uninterrupted service for the lesson. No make-ups or credits are to
be expected if the students wifi drops out or is sub-standard.
d) Students, parents and caregivers must ensure the laptop or device has sufficient power for the duration of the lesson. No make-ups or credits are to
be expected if the students device runs out of power.
e) If a student does not come online after 10 minutes into the scheduled lesson time, a courtesy email and/or text will be sent as a reminder. This does not
initiate a rescheduled lesson. If insisted upon, this ‘rescheduled’ lesson will be billed as an extra lesson (see clause 9).
20. Lessons are assumed to be continuous into the next Semester and year with the single exception of a Year 12 student leaving school at the end of the year.
Should you wish to discontinue guitar lessons, notice must be provided in writing to me no later than the end of week seven of the term prior to discontinuation.
Failure to do so will result in the following term’s fees being payable. I reserve the right to discontinue lessons with any given student at any time before a new billing
period (Semester).
21. For CGS school students: when the student refuses to adhere to the Instrumental Requirements as set out by CGS – and subsequently forfeits their place to learn
guitar at CGS and enforced by the school and beyond my control; the outstanding lessons will not be refunded. These requirements currently address ensemble
participation, attendances, performances and assessments.
22. Should a school student refuse to come to their lesson, e.g. they are doing something ‘fun’ in class and don’t want to leave, it will be strongly suggested they come but
physical force or cohesion will not be employed to enforce the lesson. Students who continue to refuse to come will forfeit the lesson.
